Reposting[1] (sometimes referred to as recycling[2]) is a post interaction feature originally introduced in wasteof2.[3] In both wasteof2 and wasteof3, a user can create a repost by clicking the second post interaction button, which shows two arrows creating a cyclic rectangle shape. In wasteof3, "Repost" is also an option in a post's context menu. Pressing this button will bring up the post creation window for the user to write an optional caption. Reposts are treated as separate posts from the original, even if no caption is provided.

Reposting was introduced on September 21st, 2021.[3]

Repost chains

Following the introduction of reposts, a trend known as "repost chaining" emerged, in which users would repeatedly repost existing posts, typically with similar messages. While wasteof2 would automatically hide reposts after 2 iterations, wasteof3 did not have such a restriction, and repost chains could clog up feeds. This, combined with the dull nature of the chains, lead to a growing dislike of the trend, and even lead to criticism by Jeffalo.[4] On August 5th, 2022, a user began mass-spamming repost chains, which forced the website into maintenance. After this occurred, the ability to repost other reposts was disallowed temporarily.[5][6][7]
